Visit from the DFE

Posted: 6th February 2017

On Wednesday 11th January 2017, Pippa Bull an Education Adviser from the Department of Education visited Cooks Spinney Primary Academy and Nursery. We are pleased to announce that this visit was a huge success and we have received a letter from Tim Coulson, the Regional Schools’ Commissioner from the Department of Education, commending the school for its amazing progress. Please see the following comments from Tim Coulson:

“There is a clear insight in to how the Trust supports its schools to develop and make progress”

“The Trust is keen to develop and support their teaching staff”

“Specialist teachers are used effectively to enable class teachers to focus on their subject area and curriculum responsibilities providing time for year group teams to plan together and share expertise”

“There is a system in place to track pupil progress and the approach to identifying interventions and monitoring their impact on children’s learning”

“Positive links with the secondary school ensure that the school is supported to raise children’s aspirations and standards by providing opportunities to work at a higher level”

“It is clear that Mr Stirrat, Head of School, and Mr Pope, Executive Head of School are passionate about providing all children with a rich curriculum to raise their aspirations which is having an impact on pupil’s attitudes to learning and the quality of their work”

“The tour of the school was a very positive and enjoyable experience”

“The quality of learning environment, particularly in Early Years and Key Stage 1, was of a high standard. It was bright and stimulating providing a range of learning opportunities”

“It was impressive how every part of the building was used to support learning, providing space for small group work and specialist teaching classrooms and an attractive well stocked library”

“Lessons are being delivered in a variety of ways providing opportunities for the children to express themselves creatively”

“Classrooms are well laid out and attractively presented, having a mixture of celebration and interactive displays, the latter providing information and activities to support children’s learning”

We are tremendously proud of all the children and staff at Cooks Spinney for making this visit from the DFE a resounding success with the aim to continue to reach for the stars.
