This evening I saw at Cooks Spinney School a fantastic school newspaper entirely written by the children. I thought, yes! That's just what we mean when we say schools can spend a %ge of their time being publishing and performing houses.

Please come and help yourselves to a free dictionary from our school reception. First come, first served. https://t.co/R4xKBrzYef

Year 1 - Squirrels and Frogs

Spring Term

Welcome back! We trust you all had lots of festive fun and are looking forward to a new term together.

In Maths we are partitioning numbers using the part, part whole model.  We will also be consolidating our understanding of subtraction and addition.  We will be looking at measures; length, weight, height and volume.

We will be consolidating our phonetic knowledge especially split digraphs and sound families. We will also be focusing on extending our sentences by using conjunctions, (and, because, so) and other punctuation marks. We will be reading Samuel Pepys’  Diary and Treasure Island.

This term will be finding out about The Great Fire of London and exploring the theme of ‘Pirates!’

This term we will be learning about Everyday Materials and Seasonal changes. We will be linking both of these to our topic work.

PE lessons

As the weather improves will be going outside during some lessons so please ensure the children have tracksuit bottoms and tops.

Frogs: Monday and Wednesday

Squirrels: Wednesday and Thursdays.

Literacy and Maths homework will now be online.  The homework will be an appropriate level to their learning and will need to be completed.

Specific Maths homework linked to their learning will be released each Wednesday and the children will have one week to complete it.

We would like the children to read one level on Reading Eggs each week and complete the spelling tasks.

In Year 1, we will still be using the Reading Journals and sending the children home with reading books.

We look forward to working with you throughout the year.

Mrs Blanking, Mrs Monkhouse and Miss Wade
